Bipolar roller coaster....

Have you ever wondered if you were bipolar? That's a pretty commonly used word in our culture lately. Up one minute and down the next! Most of us have been there occasionally. I guess we should worry when our ups or downs (or a combination of both) threaten to wreck our normal state of affairs. I mean, if we get so depressed we call in sick to work a little more than once in a while, perhaps a visit to a therapist or some great self-help therapy is in order.

Recently, I returned to the classroom to work with teens. Not a bad experience for the most part, but there is one class - we all have that ONE trigger - that just love to play and laugh and do anything but listen and learn. Most of the time I can take it, but once in a while their behavior (or lack thereof) makes me sad. I mean sad where I cry. Where I doubt my efficacy as a teacher. And all those self doubts and esteem issues surface. Deep breath. Smile even though I don't want to. And let it go...let it go....

So what is your trigger? What can make you so sad you sink to the depths of depression? What makes you so giddy you feel you could fly? Those ups are also dangerous. I mean, if they interfere with your normal daily routine, they can't be THAT good for you. I mean you feel so happy you go out and buy all the clothes on sale at Macy's in  your size - even though you have five closets full of clothing....Or you are so happy you speed like you're an Indie racecar driver and get five tickets in a day -whoa! That's when you can be pretty sure you just might be bipolar....

But if you are down once in a while or feel pretty darn good once in a while, good for you! You are human and those feelings are fine. Just take the time to care for yourself so that you can maintain that balance of wellness that eludes all of us sometimes and some of us all the time...peace and blessings to you!

So let it go! Let it go!
